The Gaslamp Plaza Suites is a historical, European style hotel built in 1913. The original architectural aspects are still evident such as original marble on walls and stairways and brass elevator doors. All are preserved meticulously ...
The hotel, itself, is very elegant with a classic 1900's charm. Our suite was on the corner of the 9th floor, having a view of the Gaslamp Quarter, downtown San Diego and even a little section of the Coronado Bridge. The room had some nice old furnishings, but the pullout couch bed was the same old backbreaker. Cooking facilities were minimal. There was work being done on the rooftop terrace, which was windy but could be quite pleasant, and it had good coffee available. However, the Gaslamp Quarter street scene has a ways to go: during the day the stench of urine can be overpowering and there were perhaps 4-5 homeless per block (mostly men) sleeping on the sidewalk. Never felt particularly threatened, but made walking sometimes unpleasant. Nighttime, especially on weekends, was loud and boisterous, but nevertheless evidenced some lively entertainment. As a senior couple we would not return.

Right in the heart of the Gas Lamp District in San Diego. Numerous first-class restaurants and clubs and theaters. We had a blast. And we got to view the fireworks on July fourth from the rooftop patio. So great! Couldn't have asked for a better location or a better staff to serve us!!

We enjoyed the 2 Bedroom suite that had everything we needed & the staff was efficient & friendly. The pool area looked great but unfortunately we never used it as the weather was too cool to swim or sit out there in October.

Overall our stay was great. The condo is somewhat dated, but clean and in good repair. Had the weather cooperated better things would have been excellent. Not the fault of the resort of course!

Michelle Sjodin at the front desk was extremely nice & moved us to an ocean view room. Our original room faced the parking lot. This made our whole trip a lot better & I am very grateful!
